It has been a while since I have blogged about what has been going on with Eat & Run MS. So, I wanted to give y’all an update of all the awesome things we have been doing!
The 1st 6 months of the year have been a very exciting time! If you have kept up on any of our social media pages, our runners have been doing a amazing job of putting in the miles. As of July 1st, we had collectively ran 11,206.16 miles for Extra Table!
One of the major running events we had was Global Running Day! We were honored to partner with lululemon Jackson and Fleet Feet Jackson on Global Running Day to try and raise over $3000, or 9000+ Meals, for Extra Table!
WOW!! WOW!! WOW!! The Jackson and surrounding area running community really showed up and showed out!! We had 119 runners run with us at lululemon Jackson. Many of them ran multiple 5Ks all through out the day. This was an immense help for me personally as I was running a 5K every hour on the hour from 6am-6pm!!
It was a grueling but fun day! What was supposed to be sunny in the morning and rain in the afternoon (which is what I was hoping for to cool it off), we had rain in the morning and sun, heat & HUMIDITY in the afternoon!!
During the day, I was using the thought of why we were running – it was for all the people in Mississippi (600,000+), and especially the children (over 225,000), that don’t have enough to eat every day. And at one of my lowest points (you can see it in the picture below) when the pain of running so many miles (over 42 miles) was getting to me, my thoughts were of how those children feel when they haven’t eaten!! Those thoughts help me push through the pain and keep going!!
I wish I could say that I finished all 13 5K’s and then ran The Big Run with Fleet Feet Jackson. But, on the 12th 5K, I had eaten too much of a pickle to help keep my muscles from cramping and let’s just say, it didn’t make it to my stomach. But, the AWESOME thing is that we had enough runners (we had to have at least 10 runner each hour) to finish the last 5k that we were able to not only reach but exceed our goal!!
The next thing that was amazing was all the people that showed up at the Fleet Feet Jackson’s Big Run!! Even some of the runners that had run with me at lululemon Jackson ran it too!!
I was a little disappointed that I could not finish the last 5k at lululemon Jackson and The Big Run with Fleet Feet Jackson. So, I decided to run the 6.2 miles I missed the following Saturday (after running 42 miles on Thursday)! Surprisingly, my legs were not sore and I ended up running “The Loop” around The Rez with a few friends that were running the RunStrong Rez Loop Challenge. Thanks for the peer pressure Patrick!! LOL!!!
With all of this being said… We are so excited and humbled to announce that we were able to raise $5000 for Extra Table, which will buy 15,000+ healthy meals!! You can see the video of the check presentation we had with Martha Allen, Executive Director of Extra Table, along with a few of our Eat & Run MS Runners!
We would like to say a big THANK YOU to lululemon Jackson, Fleet Feet Jackson and all of the individual people that have donated to make the 1st 6 months of this year so successful!! Our goal is to raise $30,000!! That will buy close to 100,00 healthy meals!! We hope you will help us reach our goal!! If 1000 people donate just $25, we can reach our goal!! You can make a donation of any amount on our donation page on our secure website eatrunms.org. THANK YOU for your donations!!
